College student and housekeeper Jane Adler dreams of being a missionary but the road there is littered with corpses. Jane found the most recent body floating in the hot tub at her newest client's house. The dead guy was a notorious flirt and carouser. Had his romantic shenanigans gotten him killed? Cleaning up a murder was bad enough, but Jane's love life was a mess too. Usually, absence makes the heart grow fonder, but her boyfriend Isaac's overseas teaching job seems to be driving them apart. On top of it all, she's been hand selected by her church as a candidate for one of their few fully funded missionary support positions. But can she solve a murder, keep her boyfriend, and follow her dream all at the same time? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Rebecca Roberts. Strong-minded, irrepressible Miranda Griscom is content working as a live-in housekeeper for the young Spafford family. Here she is loved and appreciated in contrast to her lonely childhood as an unwanted granddaughter. When a wealthy neighbor proposes marriage so that she can care for his motherless children, she is delighted to show him the door, proud that she is “a free and independent woman who can earn her own living”. In spite of her own sad beginning, Miranda has always championed the underdog. In her youth she devised a way to thwart the schoolteacher from unfairly giving the neighborhood bad boy a beating. Years later, in a comical plan involving mesmerizing and “ghosts”, she manages to catch the person responsible for the murder that caused her friend to flee the town. The story expands from the small town to include real personages of the mid 19th century: Samuel Morse, inventor of the telegraph; Dr. Marcus Whitman, missionary and blazer of the Oregon Trail. But it is chiefly the story of courageous-hearted, indomitable Miranda, a unique and endearing character. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Anne Hancock. Shangaied to China: Introducing Hudson Taylor Neil Thompson had promised his grandmother that he would wait for his grandfather to bring him to see the great oceangoing ships at the docks in Liverpool, England. But when he convinced himself that it was okay to go alone, he did not know the danger he would face on that bright morning in September 1853. The docks were no place for a 12-year-old boy who was alone. Stopping to admire a small clipper ship, the Dumfries, Neil is suddenly grabbed and dragged aboard the ship, then locked in a small, dark room until the ship is on its way to sea. When he’s finally let out, he discovers he’s been shanghaied to be a cabin boy on a tea clipper bound for China and there’s no chance for escape! Fortunately for Neil, on board the ship is a young missionary named Hudson Taylor who is also bound for China. Your salespeople are your lifeblood. You may not like it, but that’s the way it is, and they are also a breed unto themselves. They don’t function like the rest of us, and aren’t we glad about that! They have to be tough, negotiating, conciliatory, patient, driven, results-oriented, and bloody minded. If they were not so, they wouldn’t get the results we need. But are you getting the best out of them? We tend to respond to our sales staff in one of two ways. We either pummel them with our goals and expectations without listening to their input, or we ignore them because we’re scared of them. Either way our business is what suffers as a result. And either way it’s not the team we want or need. Being immersed in all things business for many years, I have had the opportunity of getting to know salespeople very well, and these are some of my observations: They are, more often than not, motivated by cash and recognition rather than altruistic "family" values. They want cash, cash, cash, and it’s their egoistic emphasis is "me, me, me". They are more mercenary than missionary and don’t really care about the philosophies or underlying motives that drive a business. They know why they’re there, and they just get on with bringing in results. They thrive best when they have a solid product to sell, well-defined pricing, a clear quota to aim for, and recognizable, clear-cut competitors. If they think you don’t understand them, they will devise their own methods and approaches that usually end up servicing their needs above yours. None of these observations render salespeople bad or immoral or whatever – they simply define them as results-oriented and task driven, which are good things. In this module we evaluate the best ways in which you can elicit the most-profitable results from these amazing people. Understand them. Have them eating out of your business palm, and you’ll have a wonderfully successful business that has no bounds. 1. Language: English. Narrator: John L Millar. Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Rodulff (Rodulf) is claimed by a 15th century chronicle Chronicon episcoporum Finlandensium to have worked as a missionary "bishop" in Finland after Bishop Henry had died in the 1150s. Rodulff was allegedly from Västergötland in Sweden. No historical records of Rodulff survive, and no Bishop or Diocese of Finland is mentioned in a papal letter from 1171 (or 1172) by the seemingly well-informed Pope Alexander III, who otherwise addressed the situation of the church in Finland. However, the Pope mentions that there were preachers, presumably from Sweden, working in Finland and was worried about their bad treatment by the Finns.
