Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Rodulff (Rodulf) is claimed by a 15th century chronicle Chronicon episcoporum Finlandensium to have worked as a missionary "bishop" in Finland after Bishop Henry had died in the 1150s. Rodulff was allegedly from Västergötland in Sweden. No historical records of Rodulff survive, and no Bishop or Diocese of Finland is mentioned in a papal letter from 1171 (or 1172) by the seemingly well-informed Pope Alexander III, who otherwise addressed the situation of the church in Finland. However, the Pope mentions that there were preachers, presumably from Sweden, working in Finland and was worried about their bad treatment by the Finns.

CULTURE VERSUS GOSPEL IN AFRICA

Culture versus Gospel in Africa: Sampling Centennial History of Mutira Mission, Central Kenya (1912-2012), demonstrates how the European Missionaries transformed the lifestyles of the Kikuyu, Kamba and Mbeere ethnic groups living in the then Mutira pastorate. By then, the pastorate covered Kirinyaga and Riakanau in Mbeere of Embu County. The book goes on to show how the pioneer missionaries such as Laight, Butcher and Hillard encountered African traditional practices such as circumcision, dances, killing of twin children, modes of disposing the dead, taboos and abominations, herbal medicine, marriage and betrothal, clannism, African worship and general mode of life. They dismissed all African cultures as bad. In view of this, the author shows how Gospel and Culture got into unending conflict to date. In other words, where is the clear demarcating line between Gospel and Culture? Can we erase all elements of culture in African Christianity? In demonstrating the impact of Christian missions (1912-2012), the book outlines the histories of some leading figures whose success is beholden to the missionary labors. It is a must read for all keen students of African histories and cultures!

Urak Lawoi is the name of one of the sea nomadic ethnic groups who lives along the shores of the Andaman Sea. The island of Ko Lanta in Thailand is the main settlement. Ural Lawoi is regarded as the indigenous people and they live there as a minority with Muslims and Thai-Chinese. The traditional religion of Urak Lawoi is built upon the animistic belief of their ancestors. The family bonds are strong and the elders play an important role in life and after death. For the living it is important to do the rituals and ceremonies in the right way to obtain good luck and avoid bad luck. In the last 20 years Ko Lanta has experienced a tremendous process of change caused by the increasing tourism. The modern society with money economy, new technical solutions and a rationalized large-scale fishing has rapidly changed their way of life. The tsunami catastrophe, and the following attention from help organizations and missionary activities, has escalated the process. The traditional religion and culture of the Urak Lawoi is still present on the island but it is declining and changing under the influence of the constant pressure from other interests.

Eureka Entertainment to release THE AFRICAN QUEEN, John Huston’s heartfelt and thrilling romantic adventure starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn, on Blu-ray presented with a Limited Edition Hardbound Case and 60-page Collector’s Book [3000 copies only] as a part of The Masters of Cinema Series from 18 November 2019. Three movie giants come together in the cinematic classic The African Queen, combining the masterful direction of John Huston with the fabulous chemistry of Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn in their only onscreen pairing. Adapted from a novel by C.S. Forester, this wartime romantic adventure sees the pair forced to travel together down a hazardous East African river after the outbreak of World War I. Katharine Hepburn plays Rose Sayer, the maiden-lady sister of a prim British missionary (Robert Morley). When invading Germans kill her brother and level the village, Charlie Allnut (Bogart in the role which won him his only Oscar), the slovenly, gin-swilling captain of a tramp steamer called the African Queen, offers to take Rose back to civilisation. She can't tolerate his drinking or bad manners; he isn't crazy about her imperious, judgmental attitude. However, it does not take long before their passionate dislike turns to love. Together the disparate duo work to ensure their survival on the treacherous waters and devise an ingenious way to destroy a German gunboat. The African Queen is one of the most beloved films in the history of cinema, and may well be the perfect adventure film. College student and housekeeper Jane Adler dreams of being a missionary but the road there is littered with corpses. Jane found the most recent body floating in the hot tub at her newest client's house. The dead guy was a notorious flirt and carouser. Had his romantic shenanigans gotten him killed? On top of it all, she's been hand selected by her church as a candidate for one of their few fully funded missionary support positions. But can she solve a murder, keep her boyfriend, and follow her dream all at the same time? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Rebecca Roberts.
